Opening of Digital Eczema Center

On Friday, June 12, the Digital Eczema Center Utrecht (the Netherlands) was opened with a musical performance by its patients, and attended by Mr. Pieter- Christiaan and Mrs. Anita van Oranje van Vollenhoven (members of the Dutch Royal Family).
The Digital Eczema Center Utrecht is based on an innovative concept of care provisioning, unique in the world. It offers new possibilities for the delivery of patient specific care. The Digital Eczema Center Utrecht uses a user friendly and flexible online medical record that was developed by VitalHealth Software in just 4 months.
In the digital center, multiple medical professionals can collaborate in the care process for a patient, with each having access to information within the medical record relevant to their profession. This capability enables them to offer their patients optimal multi-disciplinary care from national and international locations, and it reduces the efforts required by the patients, their parents and the medical professional for both care delivery and research efforts. The solution also offers e-learning (self-management) capabilities, and allows the patients, parents and medical professionals to chat and collaborate on treatment projects.
The digital center’s primary focus is on patients with moderate to severe atopic eczema and asthma, supported by the Dutch Astma Center Davos (Switzerland) and the Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital in Utrecht. In future versions the focus will be expanded to include adults with eczema, as well as patients with other skin diseases.
The development of the digital center was a joint effort between the Association for People with Atopic Eczema, the Dutch Davos Association, the European Allergy Clinic Davos, VitalHealth Software and the Dermatology/Allergy department of the University Medical Center in Utrecht.
